OUR STORY

The Cook Chevrolet Subaru & Ford story starts in 1962.  Up until that time, my dad worked for GM Insurance in Kansas.  He later transferred to Salida, Pueblo and finally Denver, CO.  In 1962, my father heard about a wonderful opportunity to purchase a Chevrolet dealership in a rural but beautiful part of Colorado- Craig in the Yampa Valley.  So, he gathered up my mother, Pat "Mimz", my sister and me and headed west.  Back then, Craig was a sleepy but flourishing town, Steamboat Springs had just begun developing Storm Mountain for a ski resort and Hayden was a tiny cluster of buildings that people mostly drove past.

Cook Chevrolet was originally located in downtown Craig and became a thriving business in the 1960s.  By 1979, we had outgrown our facilities and built our "all new, state-of-the-art" dealership where it stands now on W Victory Way. 

In 1979, we acquired a wonderfully quirky but stalwart all-weather brand- Subaru.  By 1995, we decided to expand our business and open another showroom in the booming resort town of Steamboat Springs.  We quickly outgrew those facilities and built our all new dealership in 2003 where you see it now on the west edge of town on Hwy 40.  We had another opportunity in Craig to expand our offerings by acquiring another iconic franchise, Ford, in 2014.  Today, we are able to offer sales and service for all of the Yampa Valley at one of our three convenient locations.
